Bits of Boston

When I hear "Boston," I think of revolutions, historical origins, change, and, last but not least, street art, which actually encompasses all of the above. A profound figure in the street art scene for Boston has always been Shepard Fairey, the man behind Obey, the Barack Obama "Hope" Poster, and all those controversial news articles bickering over the numerous, thought provoking messages portrayed in his public works. Fairey was and still definitely is a man who stands firm for his beliefs, as he's been in and out of jail for his bold ways. I have so much admiration for people like him, especially when it involves a branch of art.

While browsing bits of Boston this month, I was stoked to come across some local talents. Boston, as debated as its art scene has been, actually has a dedicated alley for legal public displays of street art. Akin to the one in San Francisco, artists occasionally come around to update and paint over old works with new pieces of inspiration. Most of the recent works are pictured above along with random bits about town. There's still so much art and culture to explore in Boston, I feel it's a necessity to make another trip. Until then... enjoy.

all that glitters is black

Be deranged. Be funny. Be deviant. Be funky.
Be strange. Be preposterous. Be bold. Be eccentric.
Just be everything but normal.
I'm talking style, the way you live, the way you think, and the way you should be.
Why? Because thinking out of the box keeps our world spinning and our spirits alive.

I'm not big on glitter but these black leather glitter Sabine heels by Jeffrey Campbell are to die for.
Happy Lunar New Year!

live for the moment

The photos above are the last few I'll post from my Norcal trip.
I feel as though I really made the most of my winter break, which consisted of Vegas, a Big Bear Cabin, San Francisco, and most recently, New York. It was actually my first time in both Big Bear and New York, so those trips really hit the spot. I've always told myself that I'd like to travel as much as possible throughout my college years before entering the "real world." Considering that I've never been on an airplane until my sophomore year of college, I've become quite the traveler. It's funny that my first flight ever was actually a solo mission out of the United States and into the beautiful lands of Europe.
Way to face my fear of flying... Go big or go home, right? Well, in this case, I did both. heh

To list off the places I've traveled to:
Sweden, Europe, Atlanta, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, San Francisco, Nevada, Rhode Island, Boston, and New York.
- All in the past four years!

I still yearn to see Japan, Paris, and Hawaii and cannot wait until such opportunities arise.
New York was rather sporadic. My friend texted me about a Jet Blue deal on a one way trip to NYC for $100, and asked if I wanted to go before the deal closes. My mentality has always been, "Live for the moment, and live as if there is no tomorrow." Therefore, I hopped on that plane with no regrets! I'm sure glad I did because New York was priceless.

NYC pictures coming soon.

This alley is a must see, and these pictures speak for themselves.

I miss you so,

artful abyss

This collection of photos was taken all over San Francisco, a city I've discovered to be an artful abyss. With its endless gems of beautiful projections and displays, it's no wonder the city feels so surreal. I really enjoyed climbing, biking about, and just stumbling upon places that screamed, "PHOTO OPP!" That photo of the lady in the red dress looking at me? That was in a fitting room, which was actually a vault... I mean, really? A vault fitting room? That was definitely a cool first timer. Oh, and the signature Micheal Jackson pose? Don't mind me... Let's just say, "Imitation is the best form of flattery." All respects to the King of Pop above.

watercolors

Of course, you can't go to San Francisco without snapping some photos at the Golden Gate Bridge, especially if it's your first time. I like to snap a photo here whenever I'm in town just to keep track of the years I visit as they go by. A Golden Gate picture kind of feels like validation for just being there.. This time around, we got to check out the Aquarium of the Bay. It was smaller than usual but did have some neat creatures to admire. We got to watch an octopus squeeze itself into a tiny cylindrical vase in pursuit of dinner: crabs. It seemed impossible, but the flexibility of the octopus proved rather ridiculous. Oh, and Jelly fishes never seize to amuse me.
